Bronze and brown bracken,
Mustard and lemon leaf.
Prickly, thorny thistles darken,
Seedheads stand in relief.
Autumn winds whine and whistle,
Across amber countryside.
Grasses bend low, bristle;
Splendid sunsets above abide.
Golden and tan trees,
Lilac and pink aster,
Weather colder by degrees.
Dahlias for impact,
A masterpiece,
God with us creating,
Season by splendid season.
Everything beautiful His making,
Giving praise with real reason.
Thanking and rejoicing
Across the nation,
Happily sensing our belonging,
In love’s splendid creation.
Celebrate garden rich colour
Before finally fading away,
Knowing God is gifting
An even brighter day.
The time soon forthcoming
For us in winter
A proposed Child’s arriving
Offering love to shelter.
The pinnacle of gifting
In Christ Jesus arrival,
God’s grace ever uplifting
Ensuring our survival.
Spring, summer, autumn, winter
Each its own particular splendour.
Jesus born as Saviour.
God as Sender.
O Lord, how great are Your works season by beautiful season. But none is greater than the gift of our Saviour. Thank You that in this part of the world, just when the beauty of nature lies low, we see the breathtaking splendour of the incarnation. What love is this! Amen.
